So now I have my own blog, and I started it at the most appropriate time, four days before I take the bar exam. I should be dedicating every waking moment to studying, but have found yet another distraction to occupy my time instead. After reading many interesting, terrifying and amusing entries by other bloggers preparing for the bar, I decided that this was for me. What a refreshing alternative to kvetching to Mom or dragging down friends who are too polite to hang up on my endless griping! Instead, I’ll post it for the world to read (or not read, based on free will).
Previously, I was mystified at people’s collective desire to publish personal missives on the Internet. Now I feel like I understand at least one reason: to connect via similar ideas, opinions and circumstances. The benefit is two-fold; you have the opportunity for unbridled venting, ranting or philosophising while providing others the comfort in knowing there is someone out there who feels the same. The vast size of the Web somehow makes the world a little smaller.
As I congratulate myself for setting up this webpage without technical assistance (that a monkey could have done), I know that I have used enough “free time” from my day of scholarly pursuits. It’s time to hit the books again. I don’t know the protocol for blogging yet — do I write more today? Should you limit posts to one a day? — so I plan to make my own rules as I go along. This may prove to be an irresistible distraction from studying, resulting in several random posts between practice exams. We’ll see.
