Blawg. I get it — b-LAW-g. Clever.

Today marks the beginning of a new week, and time for me to get my new practice officially up and running.  I’ve been typing copy for my soon-to-be-unveiled website, and have decided to include a blog, or blawg, as the techies say. It is apparently an excellent way to establish yourself as an attorney with special knowledge on particular areas of law, while providing useful content for consumers and other attorneys. As I have been posting on this blog for several months, for no particular reason, I welcome the opportunity to blog professionally.

While researching every facet I could think of about starting a solo practice, I came across scores of blogs, in two notable categories: those aimed toward practice management of the solo and small firm (either giving advice, or narrating their own experiences), and those targeting particular areas of law.  I find each type equally important.  It occurred to me that this site could be my narrative forum (though I’m sure I’ll still sprinkle my posts with accounts of tardy children and an unkempt house), and the other would serve as my professional outlet. So now I guess I’m a multi-blogger.

I’m still excited about the prospects ahead, though today’s agenda involves more paper-pushing just to be able to open the doors officially.  Real estate transactions require so much more third-party involvement just to be able to offer the services.  I feel like I’ve written and rewritten my curriculum vitae and list of references to the point of rote memorization.  Hopefully, I’ll finish most of my applications this week.  In the meantime, I would be thrilled if a client of other needs would give me a jingle.  Preferably one who has a legal issue that I could address immediately, without jumping through any qualification hoops.

Should I have any downtime, I’ll return to several of the blogs I have found helpful thus far — maybe they can give me some pointers on how to nix downtime and drum up something billable.  For anyone seeking solo law advice, stories and humor, try one of the following “blawgs” or websites:

My Shingle, by guru Carolyn Elefant — blawg

Build a Solo Practice, by Susan Cartier Liebel, law coach extrordinaire — blawg

Small Business and Solo Law Practice Blog, by techie Victor Medina — blawg

GP | Solo, by the American Bar Association — website

Launching a Small Firm or Solo Practice, by Italo Consulting — website

Blawg Directory, by the ABA Journal — lots o’ blawgs
