Lizann -- thanks for the support. My daughter is currently enrolled in kindergarten at the fantastic public school in our area. She is doing well, and so am I, thanks to the bussing system. She has only been tardy three times in the first half of this year, and only one of those instances was more than five minutes past the eight o'clock bell.

We found the previous school to be great, but a little harsh on the schedule of preschoolers. Seems like much of our problem rested on the teacher and her expectations. Of course, I know that I deserve the majority of the blame -- the more the teacher behaved in an ugly fashion, the less I cared about meeting her standards (I guess it was a reversion to my own childhood rebellion!). I also just could not wrap my mind around militaryesque schedule precision for a 4K class.

Now that my daughter is in "real" school, we have adjusted to her new schedule with no problems at all, and have been pleased with the elementary school, its policies, schedules, curriculum, and possibly most importantly, faculty and staff.

Thanks again for your response.

As a Preschool teacher/ assistant director I feel that 8:10 is a very unreasonable time to have doors "locked" on you. It's hard enough for adults to get anywhere by that time, how are Early Childhood students to do the same?

Is this your child's first time in a group setting?

If so, I am deeply sorry you have had such a cold experience. Preschool teachers are known for their patience with children and families alike, and unfortunately your child's teacher does not display those characteristics.

I have worked with colleagues that grumble throughout the day as a teacher and unfortunately did not have the passion as a teacher. Your teacher may fall under this category.

If you feel your and your child are becoming labels rather than a part of the program, report to the director of your experience and concern for yourself and ESPECIALLY your child. It seems you are fully aware of why you are late and are remorseful for it, but as professional teachers, you child's teacher should understand how unprofessional it is to discuss with other families your personal business.

Good Luck!

Don't forget the online shoppers. You might want to do a post for them as some are still not using the free coupons that are out there.
